Banda Sea: Into the Blue

−4.5°S, 129.9°E

Twelve days aboard the Pindito liveaboard through one of Indonesia's most remote marine corridors — volcanic islands, untouched reefs, schooling pelagics, and the chance of blue, sperm and pilot whales passing through.

Far from the crowds, in the wild heart of Indonesia, this expedition explores one of the most remote and biodiverse marine corridors on Earth. The Banda Sea is where volcanic islands rise from deep ocean, reefs are full of colour, and the unexpected is always possible. One dive may be filled with rare macro life — seahorses, nudibranchs, frogfish, rhinopias, ghost pipefish. The next may bring barracuda, tuna, sharks, mobulas, mantas, hammerheads, or vast schools of fish. And then there is the real magic: the possibility of whales. Blue whales, pilot whales, sperm whales and other cetaceans are known to pass through these waters during this season. As always with wildlife, nothing is guaranteed — but this route puts us in the right place, at the right time, in one of the most powerful ocean migration corridors in the world. This is not a resort trip. It is a remote expedition for ocean lovers, experienced divers, photographers and travellers who want to go somewhere that still feels wild.

Reefs full of tiny, strange life

One dive in the Banda Sea can be entirely macro — pygmy seahorses, nudibranchs in colours you wouldn't believe, frogfish, rhinopias, ghost pipefish. Slow down, hover, and the reef reveals an entire world built at the millimetre scale.

Big fish, big movement

Then the next dive flips the script: tornadoes of barracuda, walls of jacks, snapper, batfish, with tuna and sharks pushing through. Sites like Koon and Nusa Laut can run with strong current — and that current is exactly what brings the action.

The real magic — if we're lucky

Blue whales, sperm whales and pilot whales are known to move through these waters during the season. Nothing is guaranteed, but this route places us in one of the most powerful ocean migration corridors on the planet. The schedule stays flexible to prioritise sightings when they happen.
